After Hair Transplantation
When a person decides to have hair transplantation, he begins to prepare himself for the operation, both physically and psychologically.
In this process, the person usually tries to find the best hair transplantation center by obtaining more detailed information about hair transplantation.
Since the hair transplantation center you choose will directly affect the success of the operation, we recommend you to go into a comprehensive research and not to hurry.
Three stages of hair transplantation;
Pre-preparation, operative and postoperative process will have different dynamics and their requirements will be different.
There are many factors that affect the success of the treatment from the beginning to the end of the treatment.
For this reason, care must be taken in all stages of a hair transplantation.
Although a technically successful operation has been performed, it is possible to get the best results, in compliance with hair transplantation rules and with the patient’s attention.
Do you wonder what you are going to experience during this process?
In order to provide you more detailed information about what should you be attentive about, and what to expect after hair transplantation we will examine the process after hair transplantation under 2 headings;
- Healing Process and Maintenance
When applying the instructions and suggestions given by your doctor after the hair transplantation, giving importance to what you eat will help the healthy growth and strengthening of the new hair follicles.
In this process, being prudent about nutrition, preferring the food useful to hair, will increase the rate of cell regeneration after transplantation and will help to shorten the recovery time after the operation.
You are what you eat!
Therefore, every food you consume will have an effect on the newly implanted hair follicles. When your nutritional system lacks micro and macronutrients (minerals, vitamins, protein and fatty acids), cell membrane dysfunctions may occur. This condition may interfere with the normal life cycle of the hair strands, and prevent the nutrition of the hair follicles thus preclude regrowth of the hair. Subsequently, hair loss process may continue after hair transplantation.
To have healthy hair follicles, you can rearrange your dietary regimen with the food items listed below;
- B- Complex Vitamins
B-complex vitamins such as B7 (biotin) and B12 have a very important role in the structure, quality and healthy growth of hair strands.
These vitamins also support the nutritional metabolism by providing nutrients to the whole body, including hair and hair follicles.
For this reason, doctors usually recommend patients to use B-complex vitamin supplements after hair transplantation.
We can list the foods rich in vitamin B as follows:
Chicken, red meat, banana, avocado, brunette rice, nuts and eggs.
In cases of zinc deficiency, hair thinning and hair loss face us as serious problems.
For this reason, zinc support is very important after hair transplantation.
Zinc also plays an important role in tissue repair, collagen production, cell proliferation, hormonal balance, absorption of vitamins and protein synthesis.
Some foods rich in zinc:
Lamb, chickpeas, shrimps, whole grains, spinach, eggs and fish.
Iron deficiency, such as zinc deficiency, can also cause hair loss.
Iron strengthens hair, improves hair texture, helps to transport oxygen and nutrients to hair follicles and scalp.
Thanks to this important function of iron, it will be made possible for patients to get results according to their expectations.
In the same way, the iron will strengthen the immune system and the recovery time will be accelerated after hair transplantation.
Some foods with high iron content;
Spinach, beans, beef, oyster and veal livers.
- Vitamin E
Vitamin E has antioxidant properties.
Because it accelerates the healing of damaged skin, it is very effective in healing of the scars.
After the wounds on the donor, and recipient areas are healed, vitamin E oil can be applied to soften the tissue and improve its quality.
Some foods rich in vitamin E:
Almond, avocado, spinach, sunflower and olive oil.
- vitamin C which acts as an antioxidant, has a very important role in the production of collagen which has a vital role in wound healing. Vitamin C is also helpful in combating oxidative stress, which is responsible for hair graying and hair loss.
Vitamin C rich foods can be listed as follows:
Pepper varieties, cabbage, kiwi, broccoli, granular small fruits and citrus fruits.
f. Vitamin A is required for the development and growth of all cells in human body including hair roots.
Vitamin A is also effective in the production of sebum, a substance similar to the fatty tissue that moisturizes the scalp and makes the hair healthy.
Vitamin A deficiency can lead to hair loss, as well as causing the scalp to be dry and itchy. (Itching of the scalp is a transient side effect that may be seen after hair transplant surgery).
Some foods rich in vitamin A:
Carrots, sweet potatoes, beef livers, cabbage, spinach and pumpkin.
We also recommend you to pay attention to your cholesterol level.
Decreasing fat from your diet will decrease your LDL (bad cholesterol) values and your HDL (good cholesterol) values will increase.
When the cholesterol level is kept within the balanced limits, both the recovery of the wounds and the healthy growth of the hair are ensured.
Recovery Process and MaintenanceAsepsis-antisepsis rules applied for all kinds of microsurgical procedures are also valid for hair transplantation.The risk of infection will be very low if the hair transplantation is performed in a sterile manner and under favorable conditions.Although the healing process after hair transplantation varies from patient to patient, it covers about 1 year period.The first three days after the operation is very important.There may be some pain on the first night, but if you use pain medication prescribed by your doctor, you can have a comfortable night.Within the first days after hair transplant, you should lie on your back as much as possible and do not have any contact with the transplanted area.The day after hair transplantation, they will invite you to the clinic to remove the bandage on your neck and to make a new dressing.
Then, swelling (edema) relieving drugs of prescribed by your doctor will be enough to relieve your relevant complaints within the first three days. During the first 3 days, as a normal outcome of the procedure minor bleedings may occur on the area where the hair follicles are extracted, and implanted.
In order to prevent the formation of inflammation, you should use the antibiotic cure given by your doctor regularly without interrupting for the first five days after the operation.
Alcoholic beverages should not be consumed during this process. Since antibiotics directly enter into your blood circulation and can interact with the drugs you use with resultant negative consequences. Smoking may also adversely and seriously affect the healing process, it would be appropriate to recommend the patients to quit smoking for at least 1 week after the operation.
At the end of the first three days, you can begin to wash your hair. You should wash your hair for 15 days beginning from the third day with the special care lotion and shampoo recommended by your doctor.
With the regular washing process, the crusting after hair transplant will soften and will be completely shed at the end of the 15th day.
At least 1 month after hair transplantation, heavy and challenging sports should be avoided.
Sportive activities increase blood pressure and heart rate. Increased heart rate may cause bleeding of micro channels where hair follicles are transplanted and may damage the hair follicles. We recommend that you stay at least a week away from activities that will make you tired and sweaty. However, after 4-5 days of operation, you will make walking exercises at a low pace that will not make you tired and sweaty not be tired.
After the hair transplantation process, you should protect the area from the sunrays for about 2 weeks.
When you go out, you may wear a hat that is not too tight.
By the first month after hair transplantation, you will be leaving behind an important process.
At this stage, it would be appropriate to talk about ‘shock hair loss’. Within a few weeks after hair transplantation, your hair will shed. Most (90%) of the patients pass through this stage, so you do not have to worry. This condition is due to the fact that the grafts enter into sleep phase (telogen) by activating the defense mechanism of the grafts due to the trauma experienced during the implantation of hair follicles. Your planted hair will start to grow in a healthy way starting from the postoperative 2-4 months by entering into a new growth cycle.
We recommend you to be patient during this process.
After the fourth month, your hair will grow further and it will start to form its structure.
From the postoperative 8th month, you will see that your planted hair becomes thicker and denser. Approximately 1 year after the hair transplant surgery your hair will get more and more denser and assume a natural look.
